Aurora Public Schools program helps students turn construction into a career
A program in Aurora Public Schools gives high school students hands-on construction experience to explore careers in the building trades, aiming to connect classroom learning with real work opportunities.
What the program does
The district runs a construction-focused program at Vista Peak Preparatory that lets students try hands-on work in carpentry, welding or related trades. The aim is to help students learn basic trade skills, understand safety and project planning, and see potential paths into careers after graduation.
Who this affects
Typically, it targets high school students at Vista Peak Preparatory in Aurora who are exploring future work options. The program may involve classroom lessons, supervised shop work, and opportunities to observe or participate in real builds. Families and local employers in the construction sector could be involved through partnerships or internships.
Practical next steps for families
Interested students should discuss the program with their school counselor to understand eligibility and how to enroll. Families can ask about safety training, any required protective gear, and what certifications or credentials might be pursued during the program. Local builders or unions sometimes offer internships; parents can ask the district about these partnerships and how they align with graduation plans.
Limitations and questions to consider
Details about how long the program runs, exact courses, and post-graduation opportunities were not fully outlined in the provided source.
