Bahrain is taking significant steps towards becoming a digital leader in the region. The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) recently revealed its achievements for 2023, showcasing impressive progress in eServices, data security, and infrastructure development.

Strengthening the Backbone:

One of the most notable accomplishments is the major upgrade to the eKey system, the cornerstone of secure government eServices access. This upgrade boosted capacity to handle 20 million annual authentications and accommodate 84,000 new users. Enhanced security measures ensure a safer user experience, while infrastructure improvements guarantee system stability.

Boosting Efficiency and Performance:

Efficiency is a key focus for iGA. A new, streamlined system empowers faster customer service response times and monitors over 80 government websites and systems. This advanced monitoring, powered by the Cisco ThousandEyes network technology, ensures the smooth operation of data centers and the Government Data Network. These improvements lay the groundwork for business continuity and future challenges.

Data-Driven Decisions for a Smarter Future:

The development of a comprehensive government data lake is a game-changer. This centralized data repository allows for improved performance indicator creation and automated data analysis. These data-driven insights empower informed government decision-making, facilitating the advancement of smart government objectives. Recent examples include supporting the Real Estate Regulatory Authority’s Aqari database and Tamkeen’s Kawader national skills portal.

Enhanced Security and Accessibility:

Data security is paramount. iGA successfully migrated user files and data backups of 76 government and semi-government entities to Microsoft’s secure cloud platform. This not only enhances data security but also improves accessibility and mitigates data loss risks.

Integration and Innovation:

Over 300 government websites were successfully integrated into the Government Data Network (GDN). This boosts information exchange speed and security, with the integration level upgraded to a more robust tier. Furthermore, geographic information systems (GIS) saw significant improvements, with over 50 enhanced electronic services on the Benayat and Planning platforms. These user-friendly services highlight iGA’s commitment to innovative solutions that meet citizen and resident needs. The launch of the Botanical Atlas project, utilizing satellite imagery and field surveys to study vegetation maps and classify agricultural crops, further showcases this dedication to innovation.

Collaboration for Success:

Bahrain’s digital transformation journey is bolstered by strategic partnerships with global technology leaders like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Cisco, and Microsoft. These partnerships provide access to cutting-edge infrastructure, technological tools, knowledge exchange opportunities, and support for iGA’s pursuit of eGovernance excellence.

Building a Secure Digital Future:

A commitment to user safety is evident in the implementation of new digital policies in 2023. These policies align with global best practices and aim to reinforce data protection, laying the groundwork for a comprehensive cybersecurity framework. This dedication to a secure and reliable digital environment fosters trust among users.

Cloud Power and AI Adoption:

The iGA is actively developing its cloud computing infrastructure. The configuration of a flexible environment enables major cloud providers like AWS and Microsoft to host government systems, boosting efficiency, accelerating innovation, and ultimately improving eServices. Additionally, the training of government employees on Microsoft’s AI tools and services underscores the commitment to adopting AI technologies to further enhance government services.

Overall, Bahrain’s 2023 eGovernment achievements are impressive. The iGA’s dedication to innovation, security, and efficiency paves the way for a brighter digital future for the kingdom.
